Developer managed to secure a zoning permit that allows the company to build the Torre de Manila in a lot along Taft Avenue. The planned location of the building is behind the lot previously occupied by the Manila Jai Alai Building.
The following month, the Manila city government under Mayor Alfredo Lim, granted a building permit to Developer. In November 2013, the Manila City Council suspended the building's construction citing zoning violation.
The city government by that time is now under Mayor Joseph Estrada.
While the Thai petrochemical industry produces mainly standard commodity chemicals, the crude oil price spike of 2009–2010 sparked interest in fuels and chemicals produced through biomass or biochemical processes. This spurred research and commercialization that continues today.
Thailand has abundant biofeedstock resources, such as sugar cane, cassava, molasses, and other natural products. The Thai government aims to promote the production of chemicals derived from these biofeedstocks.
Specialty plastics are imported for many industries, including the automotive and medical equipment industries. Value-added plastics are needed for specialized packaging sectors in the electronic and medical industries.

Water resource is vital for human living, and is essential in sustaining the environment. In recent years, Thailand has experienced frequent and severe drought and flood, which seems to continuously intensify. These extreme events have caused loss and damage to the economy by affecting agriculture, industry and community areas, with an estimation of 10 billion baht. Particularly, the great flood in 2011 has affected not only domestic, but also foreign investment.
Assessed by the World Bank, the damages and losses from the 2011 flood is approximately 1.44 trillion baht. Fully aware of the significant impacts from those floods, the government has set up the Strategic Committee for Water Resource Management (SCWRM). Later on, the SCWRM has formulated the Master Plan on Sustainable Water Resource Management for both urgent and long term, in order to ensure the continuity of country’s development even with future drought and flood.
Ternate, North Maluku - North Maluku provincial government is planning to develop Morotai and Halmahera islands into an industrial center in East Indonesia, local government spokesman Abubakar Abdullah said here on Wednesday.

As part of the new global context, the World Economic Forum has identified 10 global challenges for which accelerated progress is contingent on new or expanded public-private cooperation.
They are: agriculture and food security, economic growth and social inclusion, employment, skills and human capital, environment and resource security, international trade and investment, infrastructure, long-term investing and development, future of the global financial system, future of the internet, gender parity, and global crime and anti-corruption.
For each challenge, the Forum will sponsor a major global project in partnership with international organizations. The internet is one example. To safeguard this shared global resource, the Forum has launched the Future of the Internet initiative to help strengthen trust and expand cooperation on internet-related challenges and opportunities.
The aim is to help develop the internet as a core engine of human progress and protect its globally integrated, highly distributed and multistakeholder nature. The initiative will initially focus on five key areas – policy and societal challenges, privacy, cybercrime, access and impact on business models.
China Energy Engineering Group Co., Ltd. provides energy infrastructure construction services. The Company mainly constructs hydropower stations, power plants, and other infrastructure. China Energy Engineering Group offers services worldwide.
The conglomerate was established on September 29, 2011, with the approval of the State Council of China. It is under direct supervision of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission (SASAC). Its major group companies include the China Gezhouba Group Corporation (CGGC), China Power Engineering Consulting Group Corporation (CPECC), Electric Power Planning & Engineering Institute (EPPEI), China Energy Equipment Co., Ltd., the Engineering Department (14 design & survey institutes in 14 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions), and the Construction Department (22 construction enterprises in 15 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions).
In November 2015, the company announced its IPO on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. In October 2020, CEEC and its subsidiary, China Electric Design and Research Institute, were debarred for 18 months by the World Bank for fraudulent practices on an energy project in Zambia.
Cambodia’s government on Friday approved a hydropower dam and solar energy plant projects in a bid to ease the strain on the country’s electricity grid, which has been unable to meet supply demand, leading to nationwide outages over the past several weeks.
The U.S. $231 million hydropower dam will be built as part of a 39-year concession, while the solar energy plants will each cost U.S. $58 million and be built as part of 20-year concessions, the statement said.
“Cambodia will have local sources of energy and reusable fuel consumption—clean and at affordable prices,” officer said.
“The projects will also employ thousands of people during the construction phase and as a result of ecotourism,” he added, without elaborating.
Government said that the government expects the plants to generate U.S. $292 million annually.
While the projects will help to ease Cambodia’s power shortages in the future, they will do little to alleviate widespread blackouts over the past several weeks that the government has attributed to high temperatures affecting the ability of dams to generate power and high levels of public consumption.

Vietnam Construction Industry Report 2022: Market is Expected to Expand by 10.4% in Real Terms in 2022, Before Registering an Annual Average Growth of 8% from 2023 to 2026.
The Vietnamese construction industry registered a marginal growth of 0.6% in real terms last year, following an annual growth of 6.8% in 2020.
This slowdown in growth is attributed to the imposition of strict lockdowns in Vietnam's largest cities and provinces. As a result, the industry registered a sharp contraction in Q3 2021, following a strong growth in the first half of last year. The relaxation of lockdown restrictions since late September 2021 supported the industry to return to growth in the final quarter of last year.
The publisher expects the construction industry in Vietnam to expand by 10.4% in real terms this year, before registering an annual average growth of 8% from 2023 to 2026. The industry's output over the forecast period will be supported by the government's focus on infrastructure investment to revive the pandemic-hit economy, coupled with rising Foreign Direct Investment (FDI).
Da Nang is the commercial and educational centre of Central Vietnam and is the largest city in the region. It has a well-sheltered, easily accessible port, and its location on National Route 1 and the North–South Railway makes it a transport hub. It is within 100 km (62 mi) of several UNESCO World Heritage Sites, including the Imperial City of Huế, the Old Town of Hội An, and the Mỹ Sơn ruins.
The My Thuy International Seaport will be built at an estimated VND14 trillion ($601.92 million) in central province of Quang Tri. The deep-water port, to be built by My Thuy International Port JSC (MTIP), a joint venture between several construction companies, will be built in three stages over 18 years.
The 685-ha port will have a draft of 17.5 meters, 10 berths and be able to accommodate vessels of 100,000 deadweight tons. It is expected that next June ground will be broken for the facility in the Quang Tri Province Southeast Economic Zone. According to the province people’s committee, the port will become an entrepot, enhancing Quang Tri’s import and export capability.
Vietnam has 44 seaports with a total capacity of 470-500 million tons of cargo a year, of which 10 are large facilities. Statistics from the Vietnam Maritime Administration show that the volume of cargo passing through the ports in the first 11 months of last year was 478 million tons, 19 percent up year-on-year.
The harbour where My Thuy seaport would be located covers 685 hectares and can receive 100,000-tonne ships. It has 10 ports that will be built in three stages, including four ports in 2018-2025; three ports in 2026-2031; and three ports in 2032-2036. The seaport complex aims to provide transport services for industrial zones (IZs) in the Southeast Economic Zone and other IZs in the province, as well as goods in transit from Laos and Northeastern Thailand in the East-West Economic Corridor.
The project has a total capital value of VND14.2 trillion ($617.4 million), including VND2.14 trillion ($93 million) from the company’s equity and VND12.09 trillion ($569.13 million) loaned by strategic partners.
The construction ecosystem has not been immune to risks facing the global economy. The evolution of the COVID-19 pandemic, a continued dearth of skilled labor, and fallout from a volatile geopolitical landscape, including fragile supply chains and rising material costs, have all presented challenges. Even so, the industry has still posted growth, with total nonresidential construction spending up 5.6% year over year through March 2022, according to U.S. Census Bureau data.
The future looks bright, helped by demand for major infrastructure buildouts resulting from the November 2021 passage of the Biden administration’s $1 trillion infrastructure bill. Still, challenges remain. The Federal Reserve is implementing a series of near-term interest rate increases to combat growing inflationary pressures, which will further raise costs and compress profit margins.
As funds from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act begin to make their way to contractors, infrastructure subsectors—including highways and streets, transportation, water supply, and sewage, among others—are poised to lead growth in the construction industry. New projects resulting from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act will begin in the second half of 2022 and continue throughout 2023, with expected growth rates of 20.1% and 10.9% for infrastructure put in place in 2022 and 2023, respectively, according to Oxford Economics. Unlike nonresidential and residential construction, infrastructure projects are typically immune to rising interest rates and inflation.
So even if inflation remains persistent, government allocations for infrastructure will likely keep construction activity plentiful.
Comprising industrial and commercial areas as well as a research-and-development facility and a training school, the Korea Myanmar Industrial Complex (KMIC) will be implemented by the two government agencies on nearly 600 acres in Nyaung Hna Pin village.
The site includes the venue where the military regime held the National Convention at which it drafted the 2008 Constitution.
According to the Yangon Project Bank, the project will be built on 558 acres and focus on production of goods for export. With an estimated cost of US$110 million (166.2 billion kyats), it is expected to include small and medium-sized enterprises, as well as heavy industry and a vocational school.
Around 200 Korean companies are expected to invest in the production facilities, which will generate a projected $10 million in taxes annually.
A joint venture behind $400 million worth of solar powered projects, started groundbreaking work on Friday with more than $10 million worth of investment in Kampong Speu province.
It will be the first step for producing about 15 megawatts to supply the industrial zone.
The PSL Consortium is a joint venture involving Cambodian, USA and South Korea investors, and has had a license from the government to produce solar power since December 2015.
“In 2016, the Ministry of Mines and Energy, together with Electricite du Cambodge, had bid for a 10 megawatt project, which is being launched in Svay Rieng,” he said.
According to the Economic Research Institute for Asean and East Asia, in 2013 only 34 percent of Cambodian households had access to electricity, which is one of the lowest electrification rates in Asean.
Lao government officials are renegotiating a company’s bid to upgrade a major highway agreed to by the country’s previous prime minister at exorbitant cost, further highlighting concerns over cost overruns and corruption in the landlocked and impoverished Southeast Asian nation.
The Dongdok-Sikeuth road, a highway connecting the campus of Laos National University in the capital Vientiane with the country’s Route 13 North, was to have been improved at a cost of U.S. $54 million, a public works official told RFA’s Lao Service.
“The offer was supported and backed by former prime minister Thongsing Thammavong in February before he stepped down, but under the new prime minister, Thongloun Sisoulith, the price is being changed,” RFA’s source said, speaking on condition of anonymity.
Middle East steel pipes market produced 47million tons steel pipes in 2011 exhibiting a five year CAGR of 7% from 2011 to 2016. The market for sales witnessed a positive trend in the country as the sales volume increased to 98 million tons of steel pipes in 2016 used majorly in oil and gas, construction and agriculture sector.
On the other hand, steel rebars market in Saudi Arabia generated revenues worth USD 986 million 2011, which grew to USD 1,581million in 2016 at a five year CAGR of 160% from 2011 to 2016.
Increase in usage of steel rebars is displayed through rising infrastructure investment with the goal to diversify the economy in Saudi Arabia.
In the space of one weird week in October, residents of Washington, D.C., and Baltimore were told that, one day, their commuting needs might be serviced by not one but two wildly ambitious high-speed rail projects.
A private company called Baltimore Washington Rapid-Rail unveiled three potential routes that the firm would like to use to build a magnetic-levitation train line.
BWRR is all-in on importing Japan’s superconducting maglev technology to create a 300-mph super train that it says could shorten the trip between the two cities to just 15 minutes. The estimated price tag? $10 billion, a bill BWRR says will be covered by private investment—including, possibly, a loan from the Japan Bank for International Cooperation.
Photovoltaic I & C ครั้งที่ 12
It will be held with Asia-Solar Photovoltaic Innovative Technology & Product Exhibition during August 24 - 26, 2017 at Shanghai Convention & Exhibition Center of International Sourcing, China.
Asia-Solar 2017 will be able to achieve parity for photovoltaic power generation as soon as possible, gather new strength for China's energy revolution, and constantly innovate the mode of exchange and cooperation mechanism, promote form of Asia and even the world PV enterprises, industries, markets and government four in one of the innovative joint efforts.
Government incentives introduced in Vietnam in 2017 have successfully attracted 20 GW of large-scale solar developments in the pipeline. For perspective, this is half the size of the country’s installed power generation capacity. However, delivering this pipeline will be challenging. Projects must be commissioned by June 2019 in order to benefit from the government incentives. While it’s likely some projects will make this deadline, grid connection and commissioning for many likely won’t happen until after.
Furthermore, there is little experience or technical expertise in Vietnam to deliver projects of this scale on such a short timeline. The deadline is likely to be extended, however the government is keen to fast track projects and has yet to announce an updated timeline or policy either on a federal or provincial level. The Vietnam Power Development Plan has a more modest – and in our view more realistic – forecast for large-scale solar. The plan aims to increase the installed capacity of solar power to 850 MW by 2020 and 12 GW by 2030.
The central province of Thua Thien-Hue has worked to accelerate the construction and repairing of downgraded ports and storm shelters for vessels in a bid to support offshore fishing.
The project has been implemented since 2019 with a total investment of 400 billion VND (17.56 million USD).
However, capital disbursement of its three sub-projects has been lagging behind.
The sub-project to build and repair the Thuan An fishing port and shelter hit only 60 percent of the target as the COVID-19 pandemic hinders the mobilization of personnel and construction equipment, said a representative of the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development. Thuan An port, built over a decade ago, has become degrading and overloaded as the number of fishing vessels increased sharply in recent years.
The upgraded one will be built on an area of nearly 5ha, providing shelter for up to 500 fishing boats measuring 6m and more in length.

Capitol Hill, in addition to being a metonym for the United States Congress, is the largest historic residential neighborhood in Washington, D.C., stretching easterly in front of the United States Capitol along wide avenues. It is one of the oldest residential neighborhoods in Washington, D.C., and with roughly 35,000 people in just under 2 square miles (5 km2), it is also one of the most densely populated.
As a geographic feature, Capitol Hill rises near the center of the District of Columbia and extends eastward. Pierre (Peter) Charles L'Enfant, as he began to develop his plan for the new federal capital city in 1791, chose to locate the "Congress House" (the Capitol building) on the crest of the hill at a site that he characterized as a "pedestal waiting for a monument". The Capitol building has been the home of the Congress of the United States and the workplace of many residents of the Capitol Hill neighborhood since 1800.
The Capitol Hill neighborhood today straddles two quadrants of the city, Southeast and Northeast. A large portion of the neighborhood is now designated as the Capitol Hill Historic District.

Southeast Asia’s largest aluminum refining business
The process of turning aluminum into products begins with the mining of bauxite, an aluminum ore, which is refined into the intermediate material alumina, smelted into aluminum metal, and then rolled to aluminum sheets; these are then used in parts, cans, and other end products. Sumitomo Corporation's investments have focused primarily on smelting and rolling, businesses respectively in the upstream and midstream of the aluminum value chain.
The smelting business has grown to a large scale in Malaysia. Via a joint venture with Press Metal, the country's largest aluminum producer, a total of three lines are now in operation at two aluminum smelters. Constructed on an expansive site five times the space occupied by Tokyo Dome, the Bintulu Plant produces a yearly total of 640,000 tons of aluminum metal.

Though mortgage rates are better now than they were in
the fall, and experts are optimistic that rates will drop
further in 2024, home affordability challenges aren’t going
away anytime soon.
A perfect storm of still-high mortgage rates and home
prices amid historically low housing stock continues to put
homeownership out of reach for many—most notably first-
time buyers—who remain pessimistic about being able to
afford a home as we begin 2024.
In the meantime, most industry experts agree that the Federal Reserve is done with its rate-hiking campaign to lower inflation. Policymakers kept the federal funds rate unchanged for a fourth straight meeting on January 31 and previously signaled rate cuts are in store for 2024.
The federal funds rate is the benchmark interest rate financial institutions charge each other for overnight loans; it tends to indirectly influence mortgage rates.
Even with the potential rate cuts, real estate watchers expect home affordability challenges to persist, thanks to pent-up demand and low inventory bolstering home prices.

The World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting 2024 will convene leaders from government, business, and civil society to address the state of the world and discuss priorities for the year ahead. The event is taking place at a moment of ‘polycrisis,’ a term that describes the coming together of multiple crises, such as the climate and biodiversity crises, the COVID-19 pandemic, the war in Ukraine, and concerns over cost-of-living.
The Annual Meeting will provide a platform to engage in constructive, forward-looking dialogues and help find solutions through public-private cooperation.
The Open Forum is an event format that allows a broader audience to participate in the activities of World Economic Forum. Each year since 2003, the Open Forum convenes in January in the heart of Davos, attracting leaders from all walks of life. In 2024, the Open Forum was hosted at the local Swiss Alpine School in the heart of Davos. We welcomed government officials, artists, civil society leaders, innovative entrepreneurs and CEOs of multinational companies: All have a story or point of view to share.
In the spirit of Davos, the Open Forum aims to stimulate dialogue among thought leaders on issues ranging from current political structures and geopolitical concerns to environmental problems, leadership challenges and the role of the arts in society.
